If you haven't read Carrie Fountain, do it now. Through her poetry, Carrie becomes every woman who holds sacred a solitary, interior life. In the Instant Winner, she writes about the seemingly endless juxtaposition of life, love and purpose. With spare, unadorned authenticity, she helps us experience humankind's strength and fragility. Ordinary, day-to-day activities and thoughts provoke extraordinary insights about our oneness and otherness -- our longing and resistance to experience the whole of who we are.
Just beautiful. Clear, simple language, yet profound in her elevation of the ordinary. Carrie Fountain brings a divine sense of praise and awe to the domestic realm. This is the kind of poetry I yearn for, and will always choose this over the more oblique, pretentious verse I encounter. I'm a Carrie Fountain fan, instantly.
Definitely not up to the standard set by her first collection.
Carrie Fountain's poems in this collection reveal her purity. "Here is a heart with juice and seeds. It's mine." That line is genius. It is calm but yet she heals an anxiety once had. This is my first book read authored by Carrie, and I admire her for allowing the reader to be welcomed deep into her personal life. I feel her vision in just about every line of poetry. I'm excited to read more of her work.
